Those 4 Months

THOSE 4 MONTHS

We ( me & my husband ) belonged to such group of people who thought   animal babies  are cute ( well all animal babies are cute) but dog babies or adults are adorable creatures . For the past 3-4 years both my kids wanted a dog as their pet . That was out of question we didn't want the huge responsibility that comes along with it  . Having a pet was like taking care of a baby who doesn't ever  grow  . Moreover me and my husband were not dog people ( of course that changed for the better ) , we didn't like touching dogs and I was scared of them .We now know what kind of love these animals share with us . We are inseparable from our lovey dovey Spotie. Our darling Spotzie.

We are now able to understand and know what the bond between us is like . We Loving a dog is different , the love we get from these innocent creations is just so immense they trust us, love us and their life revolves around us ,just so valuable that nothing can ever change their love for us . Spotie has carved a niche in our hearts that will stay with us forever. The first few months of any animal baby is crucial in the way they are brought up , the habits they develope . Spotie  was a stray pup before we adopted her . We adopted her when she was 3 days short of 4 months . But the way she has changed  is for the  good .

A female stray dog protects her babies by giving birth to them in a secluded dark hiding place where there is no danger to them. It takes about 30-40  days for the puppies to come out of the hiding place . That is when their eyes open .Spotie was a chubby cuddly pup . Very cute to look at would melt anybody's heart by just a wagging tail . She was  the cutest and the smartest among the whole litter . She would follow us where ever we went . Everyone in our neighborhood loved her fed her , in fact they fed the litter everyday . She was naughty little brat . She and her siblings  picked stuff like brush ,pen , brooms from this under construction House in our neighborhood . The workers who stayed there had a tough time keeping things safely because it was a daily routine that their things got misplaced,  be it their comb which was carried to chew upon or the towel which was torn to pieces. Even their clothes were not spared .

One morning we saw Spotie running everywhere and her siblings followed her fast it was as if a race was going on, to our surprise we saw her carry  a pack of six eggs . They were playing,  it was not that they wanted to eat it but just the fun of playing with it . Spotie was a jubilant pup always on the go finding a new interesting thing to keep herself occupied .  One incident that blew our mind was when we saw the litter feeding on a dead snake . It all started when these puppies came to us and there . they had a pungent smell  . We saw them all feeding on it . It was a strange thing we had never seen a dog feed on snake . It was lack of food that made them do it or was it just out of curiosity . Couldn't figure that out . But truly felt sorry for such a thing to happen . Apart from the food we gave them they ( the litter) always feasted on Rats ,Squirrels,Birds hunted by their mother .  Spotie was taking over her mother as she is a quick learner . Any Squirrel found on the ground if not caught would be chased until it climbed the tree . Thanks to them no Rats were left in the street all killed and feasted on . Spotie's mother had very well trained her puppies . She is a very loving and caring mother . These puppies never ever peed or pooped in the wrong places . Even the so called "pure breeds the sophisticated dogs"  as they are called , the expensive ones  are not so well trained , no offence all dogs are amazing! My Spotie  , she  pee's and poops on the side on the grass . We didn't instill this manner in her it was her mother who taught her . In fact Spotie's siblings too were the same .She has learnt a lot from her mother .

One day Spotie 's mother carried a big skull of some animal from some far off place  . Well She was doing her best .. teaching her babies the survival on the streets . That is a natural instinct  the dogs have or I can say every animal has a natural instinct to provide for their babies  . Without it they will not survive especially  the life of a stray dog, it is survival of the fittest .  So this skull was chewed upon leisurely by all the siblings . They fought for it  but always went in an order of who would chew it first . When Spotie chewed it she must have been very happy . Not always do you get such things to chew , as much as I know dogs love to chew . The day before we adopted Spotie she was there right in front of our house sitting and chewing on the bone .  She was all stinky . That is when we decided that she needs to leave all these dirty habits for the good and stay inside . When we look back  remember all the incidents it gives us immense pleasure to see what we have sculpted her into . How she has overcome all those habits to become well trained pup she is now .  The effort we put into train and groom her . The effort she has put in to change herself to live with us is truly enormous . She has changed for the good for herself and for us too . I haven't seen such good well trained Dog .  She is a fast learner . We don't know if she does it ( learn everything ) out of gratitude (because we took care of her during canine distemper ) or is it in- built in her that she follows our commands immaculately. She is brilliant and gifted too . People around our neighborhood who saw us take care of her when there was no hope left praise us for being such good human beings .   How could we even let her die right in front of us, so sick. They say you are great ! We didn't do it to get praised by anyone, we just couldn't leave her there to die . That was God who made us do it. We are happy that Spotie is with us today . She is an attention seeker . She loves us all . We know it .  She is a talented bright little brat for sure, no other dog would have changed so much even after living her life as a stray pup for 4 months going through such enormous change is just awesome !!
