Spotie's Reformation !
As you all know the life of a stray dog is excruciating . Whether it is the summer , winter ,or the monsoons they bare it all with no place of shelter . They are deprived of food all the times . They eat from the garbage or sometimes live their life by eating leftovers given by some human being or may be even starve . They crave for love and at the same time become aggressive as people treat them badly . People often tend to think that these strays are not worth anything, that they cannot be tamed , that they will always remain the same no matter how much you try to change them . I would say if given a chance they would change. Its not hard to reform them .We can give a better life to them if we adopt them . Well Money can buy you a fine dog ,but only love can make him wag his tail. Adopt Don't Shop !
When we adopted Spotie she was almost 4 months old . Our Spotie being a stray pup changed from worse to better ,she took time to get adjusted learn manners and get disciplined to be trained into a pet . She did learn with grace but troubled us sometimes . We didn't give up on her , Nor did she let us down .
Spotie is a brat , but cute lil one. Even before we adopted her she always behaved in that way . That could be because she was sweet to everyone and they loved her a lot .The first day after adopting her and not letting her out on her own it was my job to train her . She was potty trained already . I would take her out every 3 hours and potty was once or twice a day so it was of no worries . If I missed the 3 hour gap then she would pee inside . I had to be very punctual . As Spotie was a stray pup she was used to eating from garbage and also pick up all kinds of stuff mostly garbage from the roads . It took us long time to get her out of it . She would just drag us to the garbage . She would pick up anything on the road a plastic bag or a dry twig just to annoy us . One evening she gave us a tough time she picked up a torn plastic bag and was not ready to leave it gripping it tightly between her teeth . No scoldings helped us we had to forcefully open her mouth and remove the bag . She would pick up a small twig and carry it in her mouth all the way back home . Now this was not as bad as the plastic bag . We started to teach her " Dirty " for bad things . She followed the word . Everything that was told dirty by us she would listen to it carefully same with good girl . Good girl is a word that Spotie responds to and is very happy to hear it . She calms down when we call her a good girl .
She is a good girl and every other stray is a dirty doggy , that's what she assumes. She slowly learnt the rules we set for her while on a walk . She hated her bath times ( it's the same even now will write to you about it very soon ) . She was a friendly pup then would never ever bark at any stray dogs but has become just the opposite now . In fact Spotie has changed, I would rather say reformed so much now that she doesn't want to step out on a dirty wet road when it rains , doesn't tolerate stray dogs , most of all she doesn't look at the garbage . Another thing that was difficult about Spotie was that She developed this habit of slipping out of her harness and running everywhere . Spotie walks backwards if She wants to remove the harness , it is easy that way the harness and the collar just comes out and she is free to run . She would keep on running if we ran behind her to get her . Spotie just loved it when we went running behind her . She had this naughty smile on her face when she did such things . We stopped running behind her would call her name lovingly with open arms . To this our lovely sweet Spotie would come running to us . Spotie ran behind the strays chasing them it was difficult for us everytime she did it . We had to find a way to not let her slip out of it . Now we put a leash to her collar and harness together . Of course her collar and the harness are not constricting . It worked ! She slowly overcame it or I can say has mostly forgotten it . Naughty brat she is . will always be .
She is an intelligent happy pup . Loves us abundantly . She has changed for the good . We are happy that we adopted her, are able to change the life of at least one stray if not all .
