OUR SPOTIE

So here goes the story of our Darling Spotie .. My pup ...

My daughter I say !

My husband and I never wanted a pet at home we thought it's a huge responsibility . And had always disagreed on having a pet . Our kids had been trying to convince us from many years . "It's a huge responsibility betu and it is very sad to loose them once they get  attached to us " this is what we thought. If God wants us to have something  he makes sure we have it in some way or the other. It is just that something's happen at a certain time and we cannot  avoid  it .So here it is ..

Long ago ( eleven months ago but surely seems very long ) my husband and I had always been  scared of dogs or any other pet animal, not liking them much, animal babies  were cute from far never wanted to touch them, felt them to be dirty and what not.

2nd October 2017 a stray dog near our house gave birth to a litter of 7 puppies. It was a rainy night as a nieghbouring lady describes it . We were on a holiday in Goa at the time of their birth . After a month the puppies made an appearance all chubby and cuddly . Very cute indeed everyone in the neighborhood started feeding them . These puppies were super friendly and lovable. We too started taking care of them giving them food and   playing with them . My kids loved them a lot , they started spending time with them . We named all the puppies so it would be easy to recognise them , out of the seven one died very early , he came under a car . So six pups were left Alpha, Spotie , Beeta, Whiskers ,Blue , Mushy .

Among these there was this pup, Spotie who always came to us , the super friendly pup, most lovable among the litter she was a sweetheart , very soon we got attached to her , we started calling out her name , she would wait for us to give her food, eat it and not leave us until we got inside the house, she would wait for us even after we left . People started adopting these puppies once a kid picked up Spotie took her home but brought her back as she was a female and took Alpha with him .  Alpha was a male .We had been looking for Spotie that evening . Each and every house .. every nook and corner of our area ..And felt sad that someone took her . Our kids were on the verge of crying .We were happy she was brought back .  That was the first time it happened . Spotie was 1.5 month old then . My kids were even more fond of her by now .

One evening a boy named Raja Ram took Spotie and Whiskers with him to his house . He wanted to adopt them. My house became a very sad place cause both my kids were depressed at the thought of not playing with Spotie . We ( me and my husband) started searching for Spotie we didn't find her that evening. We slept with a heavy heart that night . Next morning both my kids did not have their breakfast . Left for school almost in tears . So me and my husband decided we are going to look out for Spotie .. we took our bike and went to the nearest roads , we asked people if someone had brought puppies there the previous night . But mostly it was a  no . We went to another area we had never been to . We spotted a boy in a house we asked if anyone had brought puppies there  the previous night  to our surprise the boy told he had brought 2 puppies . We saw that it was Spotie sleeping in the boys house along with Whiskers . Spotie recognised us wagging her tail with happiness . We were relieved to find her we told the boy that we need  to take her back . We told him he could visit us to play with her . He agreed and gave us Spotie back . We brought her back on our bike . Spotie's mom was so happy to see her all the puppies and mommy embraced each other . We were happy to unite them .

We decided that we would put a collar around Spotie's neck so nobody would take her . She was a brat  a tiny little one..By now she was 2.6 month old could understand her name would follow us to the main roads . She would follow our commands of come , sit . She was our sweetheart .. indeed each and every kid in our neighborhood would call out her name and she responded with wagging tail and of course a smile .

Then came the worst time of our life . Spotie fell sick . That morning Spotie came to me she did not want to leave my side , she entered my garage and didn't want to leave she was asleep for sometime and then She started puking we thought it was indigestion she would be fine in 1-2 days . But her health deteriorated the next day she was no where to be found . She was sleeping in a secluded place between the bushes. That place didn't have any sunlight come through, it was cold there . The bushes between which Spotie was sleeping had a soothing smell she would just lift her head  look at us and then go back to sleep . She didn't want to come out of her hiding place.  Her eyes had lot of mucus and could hardly open.  She looked very weak and fragile. She was infected with Canine distemper . (Canine distemper is a worst kind of disease to affect the puppies in the age of 3-4 months it has a low survival rate . Most puppies affected with it do not survive  . ) We had a vet come check her , the vet gave us no hope , but we didn't want anything bad for her . She did not eat or drink , we cleaned her eyes with some water and  cotton , we fed her milk and glucose with a syringe . Keeping her hydrated . She had become very weak . It made us very sad looking at her like this . She just wanted to stay in the bushes . Sometimes we would carry her  near our house try to feed her milk with a syringe. When we left her unattended she would just  find another dark place to hide. We were scared of loosing her .  People told us she might not survive . Those days were really bad.  My hubby who was out of town returned that evening  and saw Spotie, he was all heart broken, we weren't sure if she would make it to the next morning, she was shivering and was breathing heavily, but our lil girl was a fighter! The next morning she  came back to her regular place of sleep, we were happy as she had come there  by herself, we fed her some  milk . We looked after her the whole day gave her milk glucose and water through a syringe in regular intervals as that was the only way she would eat . That night after we went to sleep some dogs started howling and barking we saw Spotie was sleeping in the same place so we just went to sleep again convincing ourselves that she is fine . In the  morning we saw Spotie had some blood on her tail and later realised that a part of her tail has been cut off. We cleaned her eyes fed her milk ,cleaned her tail till there was no blood . She was sleeping in the warm sunlight ,we called the vet . He said since she had become weak the rats must have chewed off her tail. It was really very sad to see that this lil pup who was a brat and would not let a cow or a sheep or any other dog near her, had been hurt by a rat , the vet gave her some injections he also asked us to keep her warm .

On 11th of January   2018  we decided to take her in, so she could stay warm and we could take better care of her , she stayed in  our garage , she would just sleep there on a bedsheet. We tried to keep her warm  we fed her milk and glucose . She started recovering. This little 3.5 month old pup was so responsible and well mannered that she never peed or pooped inside the house , we took her outside from time to time and she made sure she did it outside . After her recovery we would take her out early in the morning , finish her pee and poop, she stayed out with her mom and played with her siblings and came back home by 10- 10-30 am and would sleep the whole day . She wanted to stay inside cause it was cool and no flies troubled her like outside, she was getting adjusted to the luxury of the indoors .

She didn't want to leave . But go out at certain time of the day and come back again . One day Spotie went out and came back chewing on a big skull .It must have been some dead animal skull .We didn't allow her to come inside, but she wanted to. I remember the day very well, I scolded her for chewing on bad things I told her its not good, its dirty. She understood she tried hard to get inside but I said No . She stayed out I could see her restlessness she couldn't sleep out because of the sunlight and flies troubling her. She behaved miserably . Then when we called her in she showed me some attitude after sometime came in and slept like a rock . That day We decided if she has to stay inside she shouldn't be doing all this ,we need to keep her clean and stop her going into the garbage to eat . So we ADOPTED her. It was 30th of January 2018 Spotie became our baby , Our daughter, our sweetheart . We adopted her completely taking care of her every need. She is the sweetest friendliest pup I have ever met .
